Bricks Calculator Pakistan — Bricks, Mortar & Cost

Enter your wall size and get the full estimate: how many bricks to buy, the cement bags and sand for the mortar, and the brick cost in Rupees — using the standard Pakistani brick (9 × 4.5 × 3 inches) with a 10 mm mortar joint.

⚙️ More options — wastage, mortar mix, rate & wall count

Standard Pakistani brick: 9 × 4.5 × 3 inches, laid with a 10 mm mortar joint — so each brick with mortar occupies about 0.0903 cubic feet, and about 831 bricks fill a 10 × 10 ft, 9-inch wall. The rate box uses Rs 18,000 per 1,000 as a starting point for Awwal (first-class) bricks — change it to your local kiln rate.

Bricks to buy include your wastage allowance. Mortar is calculated for the bricks actually in the wall (before wastage): cement in 50 kg bags, sand in cubic feet (cft). The brick cost uses your rate per 1,000 — labour and mortar materials are not priced here.

Ready Answers — Common Walls

Standard 9 × 4.5 × 3 inch bricks, 10 mm mortar joints, 5% wastage included, no door/window deduction except where stated:

WallBricks Needed
10 × 10 ft wall — 4.5 inch thick437
10 × 10 ft wall — 9 inch thick873
Per 100 sq ft — 9 inch wall873
12 × 14 ft room — 4 walls, 10 ft high, 9 inch thick, minus 1 door + 1 window4,248

For a whole room, enter the total length of all walls (for example 52 ft for a 12 × 14 room) or use the "Same Walls" count for repeated walls.

How It Is Calculated

  1. Wall volume = (length × height − doors × 21 sq ft − windows × 12 sq ft) × wall thickness.
  2. One brick with mortar takes (9 + 0.39) × (4.5 + 0.39) × (3 + 0.39) inches ≈ 0.0903 cubic feet — the 0.39 inch is the standard 10 mm mortar joint added on each side.
  3. Bricks = wall volume ÷ 0.0903. Your wastage allowance is then added and the result rounded up.
  4. Mortar (wet) = wall volume − (bricks in the wall × the net brick volume, 0.0703 cft). Dry mortar = wet mortar × 1.30 (the standard dry-volume factor).
  5. Cement and sand are split from the dry mortar by your mix ratio. Cement uses a density of 1440 kg/m³ and is shown in 50 kg bags; sand is shown in cubic feet.

Check it yourself: a 10 × 10 ft, 9-inch wall has a volume of 75 cft → 75 ÷ 0.0903 ≈ 831 bricks before wastage — the same figure published brick-calculation guides give for this wall.

About the Brick Rate

How to Use This Calculator

  1. Enter the wall's length and height in feet. For a room, add up all four walls (or enter one wall and set "Same Walls").
  2. Count the doors and windows in the wall — a standard door counts as 21 sq ft and a window as 12 sq ft, and their area is subtracted.
  3. Pick the wall thickness: 4.5 inch for partition walls, 9 inch for standard house walls, 13.5 inch for heavy/load-bearing walls.
  4. Choose the mortar mix (1:4 is the usual wall mix) and a wastage allowance — 5% covers normal breakage and cutting.
  5. Set your local brick rate per 1,000 and read the result: bricks to buy, cement bags, sand, and the estimated brick cost.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How many bricks are needed for 100 square feet of wall?

For a 9-inch wall built with the standard 9 × 4.5 × 3 inch brick and 10 mm mortar joints, about 831 bricks before wastage — 873 with the usual 5% wastage added, which is what this calculator shows by default. A 4.5-inch partition wall needs about half as many: 437 for the same 100 square feet with wastage.

What is the standard brick size in Pakistan?

The standard kiln brick in Pakistan is 9 × 4.5 × 3 inches (about 225 × 113 × 75 mm), laid with a mortar joint of about 10 mm. This calculator uses exactly that size — if your bricks are a different size, your count will differ.

What do Awwal and Dom grades mean?

Awwal (first class) bricks are well-burnt, uniform in size and colour, with sharp edges and a clear metallic ring when two are struck together — they are used for main and load-bearing walls. Dom, also spelled Doem (second class), bricks are a little irregular or less evenly burnt and cost less; they are used where strength matters less. Below them comes the cheapest third-class (Khangar) brick.

Why do brick rates differ from city to city?

Bricks are heavy and made in local kilns (bhatta), so the rate you pay depends on the kiln, fuel costs and how far the bricks travel. Market reports checked on 2 Nov 2026 put Awwal bricks roughly between Rs 16,000 and Rs 22,000 per 1,000 in different cities. That is why the rate in this calculator is an editable box — enter your own local rate for a true estimate.

Does this calculator include mortar and wastage?

Yes. The mortar estimate (cement bags and sand) is calculated from the actual mortar in the wall — wall volume minus the volume of the bricks — increased by the standard dry-volume factor of 1.30 and split by the mix ratio you choose. Wastage is separate: pick 0%, 5% or 10% (5% is the usual allowance for breakage and cutting).

Is this tool free? Does my data go anywhere?

Yes, completely free. All calculations happen inside your own phone or computer — nothing you type is uploaded anywhere.
